anybody walking? is a Frankfurt ballroom collective that creates spaces for artistic expression, exchange and shared practice through balls, workshops and other formats. Since its beginnings, the collective has developed into an independent presence in Frankfurt’s cultural scene and now works both within the independent scene and in institutional contexts.
The collaboration with Sām Sabor began in 2022 and was among his first initiatives as part of Tanzplattform Rhein-Main at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm. Together, they developed ways to realise ballroom formats in institutional contexts, access funding and establish longer-term partnerships. Sām supported the collective in project development, funding advice and programming.
The collaboration gave rise to The Notorious Kiki Ball 2023 and the Ill Na Na Kiki Function 2025, among other workshops and encounter formats. The development of anybody walking? shows how independent community structures and institutional collaboration can complement one another while the collective retains its artistic independence.
