Nights at Boogie Wonderland is a standalone artistic research project by choreographer Maria Alejandra “Maale” Ojeda and dramaturg Sām Sabor. It explores Whacking as a movement language, tracing its history and examining its expressive possibilities in contemporary performance.
The research asks how the embodied, musical and cultural knowledge of Whacking can inform a choreographic practice that stays connected to its roots in club culture. It focuses on expression, self-presentation and the relationship between an individual movement language and theatrical space.
Maria Alejandra “Maale” Ojeda leads the choreographic research. Sām Sabor provides dramaturgical support throughout the process. Their joint research took place during a two-week residency at Tanzfestival Rhein-Main 2026. A public showing is planned for 8 November 2026 to share insights into the research process.
