SHIFT is a collective based in Hesse that explores Popping and Boogaloo as distinct artistic movement languages and forms of cultural knowledge transmission. With Next Steps funding in 2026, the collective realised a decentralised programme comprising a residency, labs, a summit and public events. Its focus is on intergenerational exchange, the transmission of knowledge within the scene and the artistic development of Popping and Boogaloo.
Sām Sabor advised SHIFT on the development of its first funding application in 2025. As part of the funded project in 2026, he provided dramaturgical support to choreographers Christian „Robozee“ Zacharas, Angelo „J-Soul“ Berber and David „Mr. Quick“ Kwiek during artistic research into Boogaloo and Popping in a theatre context.
The research focused on Boogaloo and Popping as choreographic movement languages and on their possibilities within a theatrical context.
